MDAnderson does take from everywhere, they want clinical exellence first. But, they also always have several instate fellows on their current roster.This is a subreddit specifically for interns and residents to get together and discuss issues concerning their training and medicine/surgery. IM Subspecialties write-ups. I have seen write-ups for many specialties here on Reddit but can't find much for IM sub-specialties such as Cardiology, GI, Heme-Onc, and Pulm/CC.Heme/oncs enjoy phenomenal lifestyles in terms of hours worked and call schedule. Seeing cancer patients is no different than seeing dialysis, critical care, or chf. In fact most of the latter have shorter life spans. CHF in particular is a very aggressive malignancy of the heart.
3- Best option is to find heme/onc in your program... If you can't find that, the next best thing is to do a oncology/hematology related QI project with IM faculty..... IF at a community program could consider outside rotation/ 'visiting resident' rotation.... If at academic IM program, I don't think these are important.Financially, heme onc probably makes 1.5-2x more than Hospitalist. Money is not too important to me and I feel like I would be very happy already with a $250k+ Hospitalist salary working half of the year.
